Waterproof vinyl mattress covers for incontinence and everyday spills
This article is a practical guide on our wipe-down vinyl mattress covers for incontinence protection, available sizes and general care.
Our waterproof vinyl mattress covers resemble what you might find on a hospital bed, with a smooth wipe-clean surface material for complete mattress protection.
It works as a barrier to protect your mattress from spills, urine, soiling and other fluids and offers a more practical solution when you want to clean the mattress surface directly, rather than wash fabric protectors and covers after every accident.
What is PVC?
PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, a type of plastic used to make vinyl material. A PVC vinyl mattress cover is a more durable, hard-wearing cover that serves as a protective barrier and can be wiped clean with a wet cloth.
It is completely different to the water resistant mattress protectors you typically find in retail stores, that have a cotton-pile material on the top and thin waterproof lining underneath. In most cases, the fabric surface will still need laundering if the mattress is soiled.
Our Waterproof Vinyl Mattress Cover is a laminate construction made from PVC, PU and polyester. It has a zip closure on the bottom side and rubber grips to minimise slipping.
Both products can provide adequate waterproof protection but the useful distinction is how they fit, feel and clean up.

Who might prefer a wipe-clean mattress cover?
This product is suitable for adults managing incontinence, families supporting a loved one with complex personal care needs, or any other households dealing with recurring spills or bed soiling.
Carers and even respite nurses will find this mattress cover helpful because it allows them to wipe clean the mattress surface quickly before changing sheets.
Can our vinyl mattress cover protect against urine?
A waterproof protective surface helps stop urine from sinking into the mattress beneath it. A cover does not absorb liquid, however. Where leaks are frequent, an appropriate absorbent bed pad can help manage liquid above the cover. Change wet bedding promptly and wipe down the vinyl cover after spillage.
Can I use the vinyl mattress cover on an ordinary mattress?
Yes. Our vinyl mattress cover will fit up to a standard Australian Double size between 20cm and 24cm deep.
You do not need a hospital bed base to use our vinyl mattress cover. We recommend putting the usual fitted sheet over the cover for a soft and familiar sleeping surface.
If you have a specialist mattress or an adjustable bed, please check compatibility before placing your order.
Does it feel hot to sleep on or make a lot of noise?
Our vinyl-style mattress cover feels a lot different to our cotton-pile mattress protector. Heat and noise can be expected but will also depend on the mattress fit, use of bedding and individual person sleeping on it. If you are sensitive to heat or rustling, please ask us for more information before placing your order.
Do you make custom sizes for a camp site or hostel chain?
We have previously arranged bulk orders of custom-sized covers for scout camps and hostels. If you are replacing covers across several beds, please contact us with the mattress width, length, depth and quantity required. We can discuss whether a suitable bulk order can be arranged and provide pricing and delivery times based on your requirements.
